Project Paper Doll: The Rules comes out exactly three months from today, April 23! Wow, I can’t believe that’s coming up so quickly. 😀

So, we’re going to do a few things to celebrate over the next few months. 🙂 Still working out the details. (If you have suggestions for giveaways, contests, etc. that you’d like to see, feel free to message me.)

And I think I’ll be getting permission to share a pretty sizable excerpt with you at some point in the near future. *fingers crossed*

But for now, as requested by a bunch of people on Twitter, a mini-excerpt! 🙂 Which happens to contain one of my very favorite lines in the book (Ariane’s response below). This is from a Zane chapter, btw, so he’s the “I” in this situation.

“Look,” I said, trying for patience, “if you’ll hear me out, I think—”

Ariane spun around to face me, and her heavy backpack, loose on one shoulder, swung with the motion. I was surprised the weight of it didn’t pull her over backwards. “I realize someone saying “˜no’ to you is probably a new experience,” she said, her voice quiet but sharp, “so let me help you with it. It’s the opposite of yes. It means I don’t want to talk to you for a minute, thirty seconds, or any other standard or non-standard measure of time. Got it?”

I gaped at her. She wasn’t afraid; she was angry. At me. And the injustice of that stung deeply, especially after the morning I’d had. She didn’t know me. She didn’t know what my life was like. “What is your problem?” I demanded. “I haven’t done anything to—”

“No, you’re right.” She smiled without humor. “You didn’t do anything.”
